Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012!

New Year's Message

To my Fellow Alumni,

The year 2012 is a wonderful time to reconnect with each other through our Alumni Newsletter! Our newsletter would be one of the best way to learn and to openly express our good wishes to our fellow alumni around the world. Imagine how thrilled it would be to hear your messages and/or articles, along with your pictures

So what are you waiting for, send in a cute picture and special article/message and make the year really special for all of us. It is my wish that we will work hand-in-hand with all of you! Let's not only celebrate, but also communicate more often so we can update each other as regards to our families and careers. Let us unite the more & let God be with us throughout the Year 2012 and thereafter.
Wishing all of you a Very Happy & Prosperous New Year!

Brandon Ericta, M.D.

It is 2012....Happy New Year to all....the Year of  Black water Dragon.....a year feared by many since it has been predicted to be the year of  the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar. Mayan calendar experts, however, dispute this and believe that this year only signifies the end of the present cycle.  Just like the end of everything, great cleansing must be done to start on a clean slate for the next cycle - a phenomenon we are now seeing in all the "natural" calamities we are seeing and which are constantly being blamed on "Climate Change". Add to this the economic and political upheavals occurring all over the world. Indeed, these are trying times for everyone all over the world! The Filipino, however, has always been known to be resilient…drawing strength from his never-ending spring of hope…and hope as well as joy is what the CSMC Alumni brought to the Gawad Kalinga community last December 4.

As the new year starts, perhaps we could include as one of our resolutions to make a major change and to go out of  our “comfort zones” -  to actively participate on more projects that  reach out to more people and yet bringing us alumni closer. Here’s looking forward to your contributions for OUR newsletter!

The DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRICS of CARDINAL SANTOS MEDICAL CENTER was awarded as the BEST HOSPITAL for the year 2011 on Dec. 13, 2011 among the four (4) member hospitals of the First Integrated Residency Training in Pediatrics (FIRST). These are: Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, The Medical City, and Victor R. Potenciano Medical Center.

This is measured by our residents topping the Grand Rounds, the Clinico-Pathological Conferences, research presentations, and the mid-year and yearend examinations given by the secretariat of the year.

This is the fruit of the labor of the Residency Training Committee, the Research Committee, and the entire pediatric staff. The achievements of the residents are a mirror of the program that the Department of Pediatrics painstakingly prepare to ensure that the pediatric residents excel in the various measures of evaluation set by the Board of Trustees of the FIRST.

The Department of Pediatrics has been receiving this award annually since 2000 except for the year 2009. That was a straight nine (9) consecutive years with a break of one (1) year and now we are again on our second consecutive year. With everybody’s teamwork, combined with a diligent and hardworking resident staff, we hope to be continuously achieving this award.

We thank the Guiding Hand above for these accomplishments. Through these, we have been able to fulfill our mission of giving our patients quality, compassionate, and holistic care.

Ma. Rosario Gamus-Te, M.D.
